Brexit (On England) # 2

BREXIT (On England) #2

In crappy towns of England
The peons are exploding,
For, from their daily reading,
Their empty- brained believing
The baron bigots scare -telling
Of foreigners invading.

‘We’ve got our country back’
They scream. So take a look;
The chain -store high streets,
Burger restaurants,
Fried chicken outlets,
Pubs to stand and shout,
From which to spill out fighting;
The country’s so inviting.

Brexit – On England #1 (commentary)

My previous post is from a new series of verse I am writing. In the ‘Reflections’ series (1 to 4) I published haiku, but in my latest project I turn to ‘regular’ verse.

Again, I take a biting, critical and existential view of the world. Since I self-published volume 4 of Reflections, the world has seen two cataclysmic political events. First, the Referendum in the UK, which resulted in a bare margin of votes to take the UK out of the European Union, and the election of Trump.

This verse exposes the dark underbelly that was exposed as the result of the Brexit vote in the UK.

BREXIT (On England) # 1

Oh! English charm!

Of tea-and-jam,

Of heritage,

And thatch cottages,

Mills by the pond,

Twee villages,

The little shoppes,

Jigsaw-puzzled,

Or placemats, or

Coasters, or box

Of sweets or chocs;

Oh! Tourists’ hearts soar!

Then the referendum,

Excresion of sputum,

Foreigners unwelcome;

Behind the mask, venom.

ON BREXIT – Ideas #2

Consulting the rich lists,

Listening to the sophists,

Showing hatred for the experts,

Europe thinks the Brits are perverts

ON BREXIT: Pariahs #3

This most idiotic government

Stumbling like a drunken elephant

Towards inglorious and hard-termed Brexit;

This pig-headed brute heading for the exit,

Ignoring the will of Parliament,

With delusions of sovereignty,

Facing impending bankruptcy,

Unaware of Britain’s waning influence,

-A country that is now irrelevant-

While spewing xenophobic effluence.
